Have you ever pictured your life without hockey? Or doubted your ability to continue your journey with the sport you love? Well, you aren’t alone because, across adolescence, 33% of girls drop out of sport as opposed to only 10% of boys (Rally Report, 2020). It is astounding to think so many young female athletes drop their passion when they could gain so much from continuing on their path. Such a large percentage is both heartbreaking and unacceptable. So, don’t you think it’s time for a change?

WHN: We are Pushing for that Change

That’s where Women’s Hockey Nation comes in. We’re Brigitte & Alex, and 5 years ago, we were exactly where some of you might be right now, just at the cusp of becoming a part of that 33%. At the ripe age of 18, we contemplated ending our hockey careers because we silently doubted our abilities as athletes and didn’t think we could make the jump to university hockey. Now, 5 years later, after having lived through the many ups & downs of the student athlete lifestyle, we could not be more grateful for this priceless experience. To put it simply, we would not be the people we are today without it.

This is why we want to create this all-encompassing, informational platform where you can learn about the many advantages and challenges that come with pursuing a career in university hockey. We intend to showcase real stories, real struggles, and real rewards as told by the ones who've lived through them: the athletes themselves.

What Can You Expect From Us?

  • Exclusive interviews with former & current RSEQ female hockey players

  • Insightful articles that highlight both the ups & downs throughout a career in university

  • Informative resources to help guide you through any obstacles you may face

  • Up-to-date reports on the exciting happenings in the world of women's hockey

We created this community to increase awareness of women’s hockey and showcase how pursuing your path in this sport can profoundly impact your life, not only as an athlete during your career but also as a person after you hang up your skates. As our careers come to a close, this is our way of paying it forward. We don’t want you to be part of that 33%. It's time we stand together as women in hockey, and push for a culture that appreciates, supports, and makes us feel like we belong.

Let’s make that a reality, because don’t you think it’s time for a change?
